Thanks for your patience during our recent outage at scalar.usc.edu. While Scalar content is loading normally now, saving is still slow, and Scalar's 'additional metadata' features have been disabled, which may interfere with features like timelines and maps that depend on metadata. This also means that saving a page or media item will remove its additional metadata. If this occurs, you can use the 'All versions' link at the bottom of the page to restore the earlier version. We are continuing to troubleshoot, and will provide further updates as needed. Note that this only affects Scalar projects at scalar.usc.edu, and not those hosted elsewhere.

Lost Values

Incoming students valued differently than the generation before, bringing a focus on other principles. The architectural aspects and biblical references remained in the chapel, with only minor renovations that were done for structural reasons. The religious concepts therefore remained in the space but decreased in value for the new generation. While it is still a religious institution named after Saint Paul, it also was necessary to adapt with time, accepting new people of the growing population of Ottawa. The significance of the symbolism surrounding the chapel decreased, causing it to lose its value as the heart of the university. Students were no longer dependent on the chapel for relief and guidance but used it more as a gathering space for important events and assemblies. Its pastels and biblical references still held historical significance, but a decrease in interest was prevalent within the university community.
