Accounts of the British Empire

Sabotage

Although British authorities claimed to allow for self government in the native tribes, they made it clear that "so long the chief remains the willing agent of the central power, these sentiments render the government of his tribe an easy matter". Despite this claim, author Bourne makes a point how "steps were taken ostensibly to lessen a disorder but so blunderingly that the promoted it" (31). The British used these to their advantage and justification to seize the lands.
