The Users

In the last 20 years, technology has steadily progressed making services like the Internet and social media widely available to the public. Computers and phones were primarily for the use of business when they first were introduced, and were very expensive. Over time technology has progressed and the availability for these objects have increased tremendously. Technology has sculpted communities such as the Internet to make it more available and accessible to the public. In present time it is rare for the average person to not own a smartphone or laptop/computer. With easy access to smartphones and computers, users are able to create social media accounts with ease. The users see Facebook, Twitter, and other social media websites as a free form of communication, and in some ways it is the users only way of communication. Users are more likely to be apart of multiple social media communities and can channel different information on each medium. Social media websites that noticed this and saw a business opportunity was Facebook. They already advertise user information to businesses, and they continually seek to gain from the user’s information. By noticing users habits of using multiple social media sites, Facebook bought out one of the major companies to increase its own business and to channel user’s information more directly, gaining individual and group consumer trends. This ultimately shows how technological communities such as Facebook can benefit off of clueless users who use the website daily.
