End

With the help from technological advancements such as the Internet, social media’s current 10 year run has been able to attract billions of users both winners and losers. It is clear that the majority of the public believe they benefit from a free service of communication. But some people have dug deeper and found out why social media is free to the public and the problems and benefits it causes. Social media companies have learned how to extract information from unknowing customers, by making users happy with free service, and hiding profits they gain from user’s information. Social media websites are shown to have the power over this information, and practically sell it to businesses who buy advertising slots and create accounts on their websites. This makes the businesses benefit in the end, but it is clear that the true winners in the Internet community are the social media companies. They do not only get to observe free information regarding instant feedback and consumer trends, but they also get the option to sell it to business who seek to gain profit. All in all it is clear that social media communities gain the most from the free services they provide. They obtain information and sell it, all while making the majority of their users satisfied.
