This Scalar publication is a work in progress meant to accompany the article "Performance Art" which appeared in Cuba: People, Culture, History.FN1 The article presents a history of performance art or acciones plásticas in Cuba and its U.S. diaspora focusing on the ways in which performance has redefined the relationship between art and politics, challenged restrictions on freedom of expression, and engaged the public in new understandings of what art is and where it takes place.
