Los Angeles Toy District: Isaac Larian - The Beginning of Life in LA
Larian’s life in Iran was not what he hoped for, and he decided to leave his native country in pursuit of a brighter future. In 1972, he bought a one-way ticket to Los Angeles knowing that it would be a permanent move. He arrived in Los Angeles completely alone at the age of 17 with 750 dollars in his pocket, bringing just one blanket, which he still has today. Mr. Larian rented an apartment in West Los Angeles for 150 dollars per month and paid for his own living expenses. After some time, he was left unemployed, with just 25 cents to his name. Larian felt helpless during this time, as his dreams of a better life in Los Angeles seemed completely crushed. These framed bills in his office are a reminder of Larian’s persistence in working hard in order to improve his future.
