30 Years After: Tabby Davoodi - Tabby’s level of religious observance from Iran to America

When Tabby and her family moved to Los Angeles, she became more religious than she was in Iran. In Iran, she kept kosher and celebrated all of the High Holidays, but she felt as though there was no one to answer all of the questions she had in regards to her religion. It was when she attended college that Tabby began to become more involved in Jewish life. Her interest in being more observant began when her fellow classmates confronted her with many questions about Judaism that she was unable to answer. Her Jewish identity was cemented once she graduated college because she was no longer dependent on the Jewish life on campus. In order for Tabby to develop and maintain the observant lifestyle she wanted, she became more involved in local outreach organizations such as Aish Hatorah. Today, Tabby is Shomer Shabbat, keeps kosher, and celebrates all of the Jewish holidays.
