Data source: Glosses

Raw data: RDF | JSON

Glosses are brief texts which introduce the historical context for the images in The Knotted Line’s timeline. Clicking on a gloss causes a new window to open which contains a more in-depth exploration of that context.

Key properties for glosses include:
  • Tagging (via the ctag:tagged property) the painting site where the gloss is to appear, thus connecting it to the overall timeline.
  • A dcterms:isPartOf property which contains the URL of the page which explores its content in detail.
  • A dcterms:references property containing the URL of the page for the paintings they are linked to.
  • A dcterms:temporal property containing the starting and ending years referenced by the gloss, in the format [start year],[end year]
Together these properties define the relationship between a gloss, its painting site, and its expanded page. By looking at the metadata view for a gloss you can see all of these properties and more in practice.

You can browse all glosses in sequence via the glosses path.
