2013: Freedom of Movement

After multiple high-profile killings, BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) police are forced to disarm through community organizing and nonviolent direct action. Inspired by “Yo No Pago” in Spain and Greece and building off of the work of POWER, the community resolution also requires an affordable flat fare.

Update from 2014: San Francisco's public transit system offers free fare for youth as a pilot program through 2016.

Discussion Questions:
  • Should police and security guards carry guns?
  • Should guns for citizens be more regulated than they are now?
  • How would free or cheap public transportation change your life?
