The Making of Memes
Memes are starting to become a major part of modern culture. The use of memes have expanded from being used to create a good laugh, to advertising for businesses and even making political points. The best thing about memes is that the possibilities are endless. Once a meme is created, it can be changed and modified. This is what is called a remix. Just like a meme can make fun of or add to a companies advertisement, it is also possible to do the same to the meme itself by remixing it.
That being said, it is obvious that there are many uses for memes. In this particular class, memes were a popular topic, and a personal favorite of mine. Contrary to popular belief, memes are not just for entertainment, as stated above. Memes can be a great add on for any project. For example, in this class we had a blog post that was due every week. Part of a good blog post, like mention in the "Blogs" page of this portfolio, is the use of other forms of media. The addition of any relatable meme to a post, can take that post from being a good reading experience to a great reading experience. Memes can get your point across in just a few words layered over a picture. Examples of the use of memes in a blog post can be found on my blog. The memes that I used in my meme remix post can be found to the side.
Another valuable lesson that i have learned in this class is how you want to set up a digital presentation. There is nothing worse then giving a presentation an knowing that you are losing people, because there is nothing to break up the presentation or keep peoples interests. That is where memes can also come into play. While doing my Know Your Meme presentation, I realized that I may start to lose peoples interest near the middle of the presentation. What I did to alleviate that was to throw in a meme that I know would get a few laughs, the meme being one out of a Princess Bride series. This meme can be found to the side.
Memes are compatable with many of the things we did in this class from blogging to prezi presentations. They are so relatable and they can really grab peoples attention.
