Blogs

Before this class my experience with blogging can be summed up into one word; nonexistent.  I figured that blogs were just resources for nosy people to find out more gossip on their favorite celebrities, or bash people they hated. I have found, through this class that I was right, and I was wrong. Yes, there are still blogs that are only aimed at the superficial knowledge, but I have also come to learn that, when used properly, blogs can be a great way to spread knowledge, and lessen the gap that has been placed between authors and their readers since the beginning of the printed word.

I do not consider myself an expert on blogging by any means, but through the numerous blog posts that I have created throughout my semester in this class, I have come to realize that blogs would change the game of writing as we know it. What is so great about blogs that I am still trying to get the hang of is the incorporation of other types of media besides text. Blogs allow you to incorporate media such as images and Prezi files to help bring ideas together. The ability to bring many different forms of media together into one interactive reading experience brings so many advantages for both the author and the reader. This also gives the reader the option to experience what you are talking about however they choose to whether it be through video, written word or through images.

Another element of writing that blogging gives an author that traditional writing does not would be the option to design a page in whatever way you chose to help get your point across. In print form, there is really one main style in which a writer can present their information, which is through a book that reads front to back, left to right and bottom to top. This does not necessarily aid an author in getting their main point across. Blogs give an author the ability to design a page in a unique way that will help them portray what they are trying to say. With blogs, you are not stuck with one set way of presenting things whereas in print you are much more limited.

Ones blogging experience will improve with time. When you first create a blog there is definitely a learning curve that come with it. There are always the first couple of posts that are made in a more traditional format, due to the fact that most people are getting stuck in that rut of tradition. Once you get used to having so many options as you your layout and the type of media that is available to you, you now have the ability to create something special.

As you will see in the next couple of pages on this path, I myself have learned quite a few things through my blogging experience. Some of these things that I have learned, you may even be able to figure out from this little narrative. The particular lesson that I am speaking of is that you do not have to create a piece of writing that sounds formal and robotic for that piece of writing to be both credible and information. The beauty of blogging is that you can use a less formal voice in your writing to express information and make it more accessible to other.

In the next few pages you will find three blog posts that I have created throughout this semester that show some of the lesson that I have learned this semester such as an informal voice, the use of multiple types of media, and the importance of how you design a page. These next three pages are prime examples of this new wave of writing, and the advantages that will be gained from it.
