Military Sexual Trauma
Thousands of Women are Assaulted
More than half of female combat veterans surveyed in a research by Maureen Murdoch et al., were applying for PTSD benefits, because of the military sexual trauma experienced in the army. This could indicate that a major part of female combatants' trauma is caused by sexual assault in service. The findings would suggest that if sexual abuse could be eliminated, then maybe a much smaller number of women would be suffering from PTSD.
Service Women's Action Network, an organization that provides information and advocacy on the obstacles women soldiers and veterans face, is actively demanding the U.S. government and military to act against sexual assaults in the military.
In this multimedia report, see Daniela's journey. She experienced a grievous sexual assault in the military.
