Thanks for your patience during our recent outage at scalar.usc.edu. While Scalar content is loading normally now, saving is still slow, and Scalar's 'additional metadata' features have been disabled, which may interfere with features like timelines and maps that depend on metadata. This also means that saving a page or media item will remove its additional metadata. If this occurs, you can use the 'All versions' link at the bottom of the page to restore the earlier version. We are continuing to troubleshoot, and will provide further updates as needed. Note that this only affects Scalar projects at scalar.usc.edu, and not those hosted elsewhere.

It was a complete opposite of how Hitler was portrayed in Germany as an almost God like figure and the ideal leader. American propaganda posters used patriotic themes and bright colors rather than dull mute tones and somewhat unenergetic statements as seen in German posters. American posters in most cases used generally unifying terms and phrases not picking out specific classes, genders, or races and cultures but rather addressing the American people as a whole to help each other. The poster with the title line “Knock the ‘Heil’ out of Hitler”, shows a truck full of American soldiers knocking Hitler on his back by driving under him. It is interesting because even though they show Hitler as a giant and potentially strong figure as he is depicted in most German propaganda posters, a few American soldiers are shown as easily being able to knock him back. Its an idea seen through many American propaganda posters a common theme of working together and this theme is put into words at the bottom of this poster where it reads, “Let’s Keep‘em Pulling for Victory”. Which is a call to action of the American people showing that together they can take down the Nazis easily.
