WWII Propoganda

Topple the Giant

In an example of American propaganda, the Americans often used humor to depict Hitler and other Nazis as a joke.  It was a complete opposite of how Hitler was portrayed in Germany as an almost God like figure and the ideal leader.  American propaganda posters used patriotic themes and bright colors rather than dull mute tones and somewhat unenergetic statements as seen in German posters.  American posters in most cases used generally unifying terms and phrases not picking out specific classes, genders, or races and cultures but rather addressing the American people as a whole to help each other.  The poster with the title line “Knock the ‘Heil’ out of Hitler”, shows a truck full of American soldiers knocking Hitler on his back by driving under him.  It is interesting because even though they show Hitler as a giant and potentially strong figure as he is depicted in most German propaganda posters, a few American soldiers are shown as easily being able to knock him back.  Its an idea seen through many American propaganda posters a common theme of working together and this theme is put into words at the bottom of this poster where it reads, “Let’s Keep‘em Pulling for Victory”.  Which is a call to action of the American people showing that together they can take down the Nazis easily.
