A Closer Examination

Let's look at another video more closely. Here we are going to continue to look at concepts and techniques and comsider some techniques used to finesse edits by bring less attention to cuts and to creating smoother transitions. Specifically, we will look at:

Cutting on softer sounds like vowels as opposed to hard consonants when someone is speaking
Cutting on movement be it movement in shot or the camera moving
Using sound bridges between shots or scenes

The rough video was created for this workshop and uses footage from the U.S. Army Big Picture film, “Research and Development in the Arctic.” Essentially, this a made up scenario, where we should image what is here as being the openning of a longer video about the U.S. military in the Arctic with this particular portion being intended to “set the scene” and establish tone. As you are watching, consider the concepts and techniques that have been discussed so far.
