Workbook for Introduction to Digital Humanities: A-State

Aimie Michelle's Media Annotation

This newspaper article from The Hope Star, March 4, 1959, reflects the struggle Arkansas State College faced in moving to university status.  Arkansas State University would not be awarded the new status until the Arkansas General Assembly voted in favor of the change on January 17, 1967.  Though the name change to "Arkansas State University" only became official on July 1, 1967, the college-based radio station went on air under the name "KASU-FM" on May 17, 1957, showing that the former agricultural college was determined to take its place among Arkansas's universities.
