Coming Soon in 2022 ...
The June L. Mazer Lesbian Archive's exhibition Making Our Own Kind of Music: The History and Legacy of the Women's Music Movement will continue to grow in the coming years to include more information, stories, and archival media from the Women's Music Movement!
In 2022, the Mazer will be adding pages on:
Comedy and Comedians
Although music was the leading force in the Women's Music Movement, comedians held a powerful and often equal presence and concerts and festivals. The West Coast Women's Music and Comedy Festival and the Southern Women's Music and Comedy Festival both highlighted the significance of the contributions of comics in the Movement.
Famous comics of the Movement include: Robin Tyler, Karen Williams, and Kate Clinton.
Publications and Catalogs
Behind the scenes of the Women's Music Movement, women worked tirelessly assembling publications reviewing artists and advertising festivals, concerts and new records. Without the women who created a network of communication, the Movement would likely never have reached as many women nationally that it did. The enormous success of the Movement owes itself largely to the incredible labor of the women working in publication.
