When I Think of Home: Images from L.A. ArchivesMain MenuIntroductionThe greater Los Angeles area is on the traditional lands of the Gabrielino/Tongva, Chumash, Fernandeño Tataviam and Yuhaaviatam/Maarenga’yam (Serrano) peoples. We acknowledge their presence here since time immemorial and recognize their continuing connection to the land, to the water and to their ancestors.L.A. At the dedication ceremony, California Governor Culbert L. Olso declared the Arroyo Seco Parkway to be the "first freeway in the West." It was hailed both as a "modern" and "novel" road by state highway engineers due to its safety features.2020-09-30T15:39:01-07:0012/30/40Pasadena Museum of HistoryCopyright has not been assigned to the Pasadena Museum of History.Dedication of Arroyo Seco Parkway, December 30th, 1940.
