For this assignment, we were to write a 800 word paper on four different pieces that covered the span of the Baroque period. These four songs were: Nel pur ardor by Jacopo Peri, O quam pulchra es by Alessandro Grandi, "Minuet" from Piecesde clavecin by Elisabeth-Claude Jacquet de la Guerre, and "Prelude in A minor" by Johann Sebastian Bach.
With each piece we were able to see just how the establishment of centralized tonality came about. Essentially, notation and centralized tonality evolved throughout the Baroque period.
In addition to the paper, we were also tasked with choosing a piece to notate. For this, I chose Nel pur ardor, an aria by Jacopo Peri. Pictured here, you can see that I stayed with the same theme of linear notation. Throughout all of my visualizations, I have tried to stay consistent with this theme. This assignment was no different. Though this song was much more intricate, visualizing this piece was not as hard as the others because I had perfected my way of notating. Because I had done this, it was easier to figure out how I wanted to actualize my visualization through my final project.
