Walter Helwich

Walter Martin Helwich graduated in Chemical Engineering from the National Technical University of San Diego. After acquiring his PhD he got involved in doing industrial and academic research and in 2003 was appointed as a Fellow in the School of Chemical Engineering at the University of Pasadena. He has published many papers on relevant topics and has four textbooks printed. In more recent times Walter M started studying the development and funding of food research in the USA during the 20th century. During his career, his research activities have focused on aseptic technology, canning, microwave heating, process simulation and sensors and process control. He has been involved in the development of safe reheating strategies for food products, an activity that led to him being awarded an industrial prize for scientific excellence. Helwich has an extensive publication list in a broad range of areas related to food manufacturing including three edited collections specifically on thermal processing.
