Lakhami Nag and Kevala Nag

"Our ancestral art form is dying"- Lakhami Nag

Lakhami Nag is an Ojha godna artist from the southern parts of Chattisgarh. She argues that tattooing has been an integral part of the Adivasi and Dalit community residing in the region.  She and Kevala learnt the art form from their parents who obtained it from the generations before them.
It was Lakhami and Kevala's first time boarding a train when they travelled to Delhi to take part in the Godna Project.

"If we do not travel or take risks, we will not be able to save our endangered art form that hold a special place in the history of our community" - Kevala Nag

She opined that if they travelled more, they could get the opportunity to showcase the godna art form, generate awareness and save their ancestral art. She talked about the early days when they were called by different villages for their work. One of the main aims of the Godna Project is to create awareness and make the Adivasi youth conscious of their history, culture and art forms.
