Touchable Speculation: Crafting Critical Discourse with 3D Printing, Maker Practices, and Hypermapping

"Data Gnomes"

The S-1 Speculative Sensation Lab at Duke University published a related piece in Hyperrhiz 13, a special issue on kits, plans, and schematics, which includes a section entitled "Material Intervention: Data Gnomes" by Karin Denson and Shane Denson. In it, they use Sketchfab to embed and share their 3D files inside the written piece, discuss various aspects of maker culture and 3D scanning and printing, and address labor and the need to reclaim their 3D data.
