The United Mine Workers of America as an Exemplar of Union Activity

Logistics within the Organization

One large duty of a union is managing itself, or in other words managing the logistics of its own existence. The files in the Hearl Maxwell Collection primarily display four main categories of these logistical functions: controlling membership, performing and giving notice of results of elections, making and giving notice of results of decisions, upholding the laws and ideals of the organization by acting as a court, and controlling the funds of the organization.
