A Woman's Place . . .

“‘It is impossible to read a newspaper today without finding at least six articles on Women's Lib,’ Shirley (Soble) Nudelman wrote in her column, ‘We Could Stroll Down Memory Lane . . . but They Built a Freeway Over It,’ in November 1971. Nudelman confessed to having mixed feelings about the women’s movement. On the one hand, she explained, ‘I am not the type to picket, burn my underwear, or join the City Club. . . . I have enough trouble thinking of excuses not to go to meetings as it is.’ On the other, she conceded, ‘Equal pay for equal work and giving women a job usually considered ‘only for men’ are projects with which I fully agree.’” - Ellen Eisenberg
