One of the most important elements to any short story is the main character, or characters, that you create. It can seem overwhelming to think of all that goes into one character, but I've created an activity that should help you really envision who your character is, the type of personality you want them to have, and the types of things that they would like to do! Remember to have fun with this. This is to help guide you in creating the best character(s) you can imagine!
We all know the wonderful invention of Instagram. Where girls and boys can update all their friends on what is going on in their life, via pictures. What I would like you to do is create an Instagram profile for the main character of your short story! Using the worksheets I provided you all in class, I want you to bring you character to life (If you have more than one main character, chose which one you would like to do the profile on).
WORKSHEET #1- A photo of your character: This can be drawn, cut out of a magazine, printed from the internet, a picture of yourself or a friend (as long as you have their permission)!
- The description: Maybe your character is really into reading, so he or she would have a quote in the description. Your character might put something simple, like what district he or she is from.
- Number of followers: Consider the kind of person you are going to make her or him. If he or she is more of a lone wolf, maybe you don't want to give him or her too many. If she or he thrives around people and has lots of friends, perhaps her or him has tons of them. But, make sure to suit the amount of followers to the character you are a creating.
WORKSHEET #2- The photos: You can have photos of a place, person, food, item, whatever is relevant to your character! You may want to include photos of your other main character, or supporting characters too.
- The setting: Make sure to "tag" the location of where the photo was taken! They can be as witty, creative, and fun as you chose to make them! (Ex: The Train-Middle of Nowhere, Panem; or In Between a Rock and a Hard Place-The Game Arena)
- Create a caption for your photos: Have the caption be something that you envision your character would say. As long as it is suitable for your character's profile, you may use it!
- Number of likes: Make sure the number of likes correlates with the number of followers.
REQUIREMENTS:- The thumbnail photo of your character
- Create a number of likes the picture got.
- Come up with a description that goes on your profile. Remember to have it suited to your character.
- Please include a minimum of 4 Instagram posts. Make sure they each have an appropriate caption and tagged setting!
- On a separate piece of paper, please include an explanation as to why you chose the photos. If there are any captions that you feel need a proper explanation, put that in your explanation too.
