Chapter 0100
Jane shifts her gaze from one side of the room to the other. Nobody seems to notice what just happened. Don’t they have people watching our work? she wonders. What did the words mean? What isn’t real? This message bothers her but she tries to ignore it. She swipes her wrist across the censor to exit the room. Upon entering the elevator, Jane looks at the digital clock on the censor. It reads “6:55pm.” Exiting the facility, she swipes her wrist once more than walks toward her car. Its dark now. Cars remain in the parking lot but there’s no one around. She pulls out her keys to open her car door when she hears a man’s voice. Turning around, she sees the security guard from earlier.
“What do you want?” she says, trying to remain calm.
“I need to talk you,” he replies.
“I don’t know who you are. But whatever you want, leave me alone! You can have my car. I’ll give you money. Just leave me alone!”
“I don’t want your money or your car,” he says while stepping closer to her.
She begins to reach into her jacket pocket. All of a sudden everything goes black. She wakes up disoriented and confused, looking for exits. Its official, she’s been kidnapped by some insane pervert. What-a-day. She hears footsteps behind her. This is it, this is where I die she says to herself. The footsteps stop.
“Hi Jane. I need you to remain calm. I need you to listen to what I have to say. I’m not here to hurt you,” the woman’s voice exclaims.
Oh God, who did I piss off now, Jane thinks. The woman’s voice doesn’t sound familiar. How does she know my name? A part of her is scared, but another part of her is royally pissed off. What the hell did I do to deserve this!
“If I listen will you let me go?” Jane retorts.
“I’m not holding you against your will. You can leave whenever you want. But I think you want to hear what I have to say,” the voice replies.
“If I’m not being held against my will then why the fuck did you kidnap me huh?”
“I had to get you away from there in order to talk to you. What I have to say cannot be said in the parking lot of a programming facility.”
Another voice, a man’s voice, chimes in.
“Listen to her. It’s important. You need to hear this, trust me.”
Hmmm...the trusting part is a little sketchy but the rest seems intriguing, she tells herself.
“Okay, I’m listening....”
