Even though paper money and coinage is increasingly being replaced by credit cards and gift cards, these forms of currency have traditionally been used to promote the ideals of a nation through the image of its leaders and symbols associated with leadership. In this unit we will look at the leaders who appear on some of our modern-day currencies. Are they figures of political authority (e.g. kings, queens, and presidents) or other outstanding national leaders (e.g. leaders of independence movements, artists)?
