Trump's critics have responded by pointing out just how much he plays the "man card", by talking about his penis size in the Republican debate, or comparing the attractiveness of his own wife Melania to that of his competitors. Kelly Dittmar, a contemporary political science and gender studies scholar, studies how both male and female political candidates leverage different aspects of gender identity in their campaign rhetoric, either to build up an image of themselves as leaders, or to attack an opponent's leadership qualifications: in other words, not playing the "woman card" or the "man card", but the "gender card".
