MATH A060: Essentials of Mathematics Dr. Rachel Graham
Isabella Krostek is a first-year student at Mat-Su College. She has struggled with math for quite some time, but she was especially gratified and surprised to see that math could lead to amazing artwork. Finally, she used a computer art program to create her final product.
A Note to the Reader
Students were assigned to create an original artwork using line segments, with 15 line segments required. Six lines needed to be horizontal or vertical while nine lines needed to have different slopes and be able to be written in slope-intercept form. Students could also have more than 15 lines if desired. Their artwork provided the basis for understanding slope, slope-intercept, and graphing. While describing her work, the student wrote the following: We were assigned to graph a specific number of horizontal, vertical, and non-horizontal/vertical lines. We then had to calculate and provide the linear equations for all of the selected line segments.
The artwork has been presented, first with a final version of the work, followed by the draft overlay version.
