Shakespeare Garden in Central Park

Shakespeare Garden in Central Park houses many of the plants and flowers mentioned in the works of playwright William Shakespeare, as well as flowers from his own private garden in Stratford-upon Avon. Flowers such as thistles mentioned in the play Much Ado About Nothing, and red flowers called poppy flowers as mentioned in the play Othello can be found in Shakespeare Garden. Attached Above is an image of the poppy flowers in Shakespeare’s Garden in reference to the play Othello that mentions poppy flowers from Act 3.3 of Iago’s speech: "Not poppy nor mandragora, Nor all the drowsy syrups of the world, Shall ever medicine thee to that sweet sleep, Which thou owedst yesterday." Poppy flowers in the play symbolize death because of its red color and sleep because of the opium it contains.
