Students for a Democratic Society (SDS)

Al Haber and Tom Hayden came to the 1960 National Student Association meeting looking to recruit. There they were both impressed by the speech Casey gave in support of the Sit-in movement. She became a founding member of SDS. During 1961 and 1962, after her marriage to Tom Hayden, Casey worked with SDS in New York and then in Ann Arbor, MI.

Casey Hayden served as a bridge between the southern freedom movement and the northern student groups. With Al Haber, she co-authored two pamphlets for SDS.
