Refugee Narratives: Ten Stories of Cambodian Refugees

The Role of the Artwork

To enhance the aesthetic elements of the exhibit and to individualize the journal entries all the more fully since we have rendered them anonymous, we have included images and artwork from generous contributors and friends of the Saint Mary’s community. Each piece of artwork was created in response to refugee crises, both past and present, although these works of art were not specifically inspired by the journal entries we edit.  It is our goal that this edition will provide audiences with a deeper understanding of this oppressive period in history and foster within readers a sense of hope inspired by the Sisters’ compassion for and capacity to love those who experienced extreme need.
