Eclipse Expeditions in Context

The photographs and prints gathered in this case all relate to the eclipse expedition program that the Lick astronomers undertook between 1889 and 1932. There are hundreds of images in the archive of the different sites, the various pieces of equipment used at each location, the personel, and documenting the journeys, not to mention the actual photographs that were the goal. In this exhibition we have chosen to focus on images that address three different themes:

Understanding the Sun
Onsite Labour
The Importance of Framing
