About Me

I am a history major finishing my degree in December 2018. I start working on a masters degree in history in the spring semester of 2019. Video games has always been a strong influence on my life, and it is no different in college. My grandparents bought me my first console, the NES, in 1990. I was born in 1987, so video games are part of my earliest memories. Video games solidified as a passion for me in the late 1990s, early 2000s. Most notably, the music drew me in leading me to an interest in playing music. The idea that video games were both entertainment and art just seemed natural to me, something not to question or look into. Fast forward a few years through some awkward 20s growing pains and a syndrome diagnosis and I arrived at the conclusion that I needed to do more with my life than working retail jobs.

I had always had an interest in history, but just history is entirely to board. I knew from my first semester of history classes that I wanted to go on farther than a BA in history. I knew I needed to pick one topic and engross myself in it. After thinking about a lot of interests that were entirely to far away, Sumeria for instance, and advice from my professors, I came to the conclusion that the topic needed to be something more than just an interest. The topic had to be something that was near and dear to me as a person. Admittedly, I'm still trying to figure out the best way for me to contribute to the topic of video games in history, but it is something I am passionate about doing.
