Pueblo Junior College Sports


With the start of Pueblo Junior College came the start of the football program as well, with a first year record of 1 win 3 losses and 2 ties. In 1944 the school saw a stoppage in football due to many young men going to fight in World War 2. In the 1946-47 school year the football program started back up. Finally in 1955 Pueblo Junior College football saw their one and only league championship in football.


As with football, men's basketball also started at the same time as the college, opening with a 20 win and 17 loss season, and an eastern division championship. In both 1941 and 1943 the team ended up undefeated throughout their season. During World War 2, the team suffered, with many of their stars heading off to war for the 1944 season, and the school did not have a team in 1945 and 1946, however came back strong in 1947 with another undefeated season and claiming the title of Colorado Junior College Champions. In 1961 Pueblo Junior College saw their first national championship team.

Golf started at Pueblo Junior College in 1939 the same year Dick Lyles was the first Rocky Mountain Junior College Conference Golf Champion. As with many other sports at the college, golf stopped from 1943-1949 due to war troubles in America, and started up again in 1950


Men's tennis not only started in 1939 at Pueblo Junior College, but also saw their first conference championships. From the years of 1943-1959 Pueblo Junior College had a drought in Golf between war troubles and no college sponsorship, but the sport started up again inn 1960.

In 1941 Men's Track began, but was short lived with no track at the school during the war from 1943-1946, seeing its restart in the spring of 1947.

After the war, Pueblo Junior College saw the start of baseball in the Spring of 1947. Shortly after came the teams first conference championship in 1949. In 1961 the team took a trip to the national tournament and took 5th place.
