"The May Queen"

"The May Queen" is a poem by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. Prudence has clipped only sections of the poem, leaving other parts out.

Tennyson was an English poet born in 1809. He became one of Britain’s most popular poets and was selected as Poet Laureate of England, succeeding William Wordsworth in the position. In 1859, Tennyson published the first poems in the collection Idylls of the King, which sold more than 10,000 copies in one month. In 1884, he accepted a peerage, becoming Alfred, Lord Tennyson.
