John Henry Boner
Born in Salem, North Carolina, 1845, John Henry Boner began his career in the printing industry, working with Republican-affiliated newspapers. At the height of his political involvement, Boner worked for the Government Printing Office in Washington D.C., where he worked for sixteen years. With the return of the Democratic power in Washington – due to the election of President Cleveland – Boner lost his political job and began writing, publishing his first poetic volume in 1883. His poetry caught the eye of critic Edmund Stedman, who invited Boner to come pursue his crafts of writing and publishing in New York, where he lived for the rest of his professional career.
