Mary Bayard Clarke was a 19th century author and poet from Raleigh, NC. Clarke’s husband was a Colonel in the Civil War and fought on behalf of the North Carolina troops. She contributed her poems to many of the local magazines and it is very possible that she wrote the poem. The fact that the scrapbook was made in same century as Clarke’s publications provides further proof that she is in fact the author of “Two Pictures. ”
