The Lass o Gowrie was a ballad that was written by William Reid sometime between 1764 and 1831. The song is about a beautiful girl form the Scottish region of Gowrie. The area of Gowrie houses many royal sites and has some of the most fertile farmland in Scotland and therefore was an important region in the history of Scotland. The poem talks about how the author convinced the beautiful “lass” to marry him and transform from a girl to a lady. The reference to the “lass o gowrie” from the poem by Reid is made to exaggerate the beauty of the female character in the “Sparking” poem.
