Origins of a Common Phrase

A common phrase that was recorded in Thomas Fuller's Gnomologia, Adagies and Proverbs, Wise Sentences and Witty Sayings, Ancient and Modern, Foreign and British, 1732. The phrase indicates that every stitch you sew now to repair clothes will save you nine stitches down the road.
