Thanks for your patience during our recent outage at scalar.usc.edu. While Scalar content is loading normally now, saving is still slow, and Scalar's 'additional metadata' features have been disabled, which may interfere with features like timelines and maps that depend on metadata. This also means that saving a page or media item will remove its additional metadata. If this occurs, you can use the 'All versions' link at the bottom of the page to restore the earlier version. We are continuing to troubleshoot, and will provide further updates as needed. Note that this only affects Scalar projects at scalar.usc.edu, and not those hosted elsewhere.
Evernote: https://evernote.com/ Online and desktop platform for creating research ‘logs’, recording your creative practice activities. For PC and Mac.
Omnioutliner (https://www.omnigroup.com/omnioutliner) or Onenote (https://www.onenote.com/) For research notes, management, outlining, planning, etc. Evernote works well for this purpose as well. (I used to recommend Circus Ponies Notebook: http://www.circusponies.com/ for this purpose [Macs only], but they've since gone under. Omnioutliner and Onenote are also-rans, but they're what we're left with.)
Mendeley: http://mendeley.com/ Online and desktop platform for research resources management. For PC and Mac. Alternative (pretty much the same): Zotero – http://zotero.com
