Thanks for your patience during our recent outage at scalar.usc.edu. While Scalar content is loading normally now, saving is still slow, and Scalar's 'additional metadata' features have been disabled, which may interfere with features like timelines and maps that depend on metadata. This also means that saving a page or media item will remove its additional metadata. If this occurs, you can use the 'All versions' link at the bottom of the page to restore the earlier version. We are continuing to troubleshoot, and will provide further updates as needed. Note that this only affects Scalar projects at scalar.usc.edu, and not those hosted elsewhere.

X for the purposes of this project is an inescapable, extraordinary force with a status of supreme importance that has some form of power over its worshipers. Within the religion it centres around, X exists independent of abstract thought: it is not imagined, though it may be questioned for its mystery. X is something that is discovered by its subjects and then completely changes the lives and existences of its subjects irreparably. X can be one single entity or many, it can lack a physical form or be perceptible to the naked eye: materiality does not define the existence of X, though it is often an important factor to acknowledge in each separate religion.
X can be taken to be a kind of hub in and of itself: in all religions, X acts as the Posthuman concept of zoe, in that it is often considered to be made up of something akin to the energy of the universe, both its creator and something within it. Omnipotence, omniscience, a complete lack of physical boundaries all are more often than not encompassed in the concept of X. X is part of everything that lives, and is responsible for all of it. There is often nothing unequal under X; the ideal X sees all things in a zoe-egalitarian light.
