As global demographics shift, the percentage of the world's population over 65, is predicted to double between 2000 and 2050. Japan currently has the greatest number of senior citizens, with 20% of it's population over the age of 65. One solution to the issue of elder care may be to replace the traditional multi-generational family bonds with robot companions. This technology is demonstrating the potential to affect both physical and emotional health while alleviating the burden of needed caregivers in a time of labor shortage.
