Poetic Devices in Rap
I want you to pick out three poetic devices that you would like to potentially use in your raps. You should be familiar with all of these devices from previous poetry knowledge, however, for a refreshing look at the list of devices and their definitions click here.
Comment below an example of the three devices you have selected. This can be an example from a published poem, an appropriate rap lyric, or an example of your own.
For example, your comment can either be:
- I wrote an alliteration of my own: The realest rappers write the most radical raps.
- Dickinson wrote the metaphor, "Hope is the thing with feathers"
- Lil Wayne wrote the simile, "Like a circle of knives I got the sharpest flow around"
If you are struggling to find a rap that features any of these poetic devices I challenge you to analyze the lyrics to Macklemore's song, "Wings" Hint: you might find personification, metaphors, similes, alliteration, and rhyme.
