Argues that history (especially that of colonization and slavery) has been denied or kept secret, hindering black people's ability to resist oppression because knowledge has been repressed. Considering the number of deaths wrought by the Middle Passage and enslavement, and the bodies never recovered from the Atlantic Ocean, "skeletons" can be read quite literally.
