Edgar Allan Poe : Portrayal in the Media: an Annotated Bibliography of Edgar Alla Poe as a character

The Surreal Adventures of Edgar Allan Poo

Macpherson, Dwight L., and Thomas Boatwright. The Surreal Adventures of Edgar Allan Poo. 2 vols. Berkeley, CA: Image Comics, 2007.

“Surreal” is not meant lightly. Edgar Allan Poo, and that is a literal interpretation it seems, is the discarded imagination of Edgar Allan Poe. After praying to be free of dreams, and since dreams and imagination are intertwined, Poe loses his imagination while using the outhouse.

Poe is the iconic sufferer, plagued by the death of his wife, Virginia, who also makes an appearance.  Poo is a lost little lad following the other wild characters in the story as they lead him where he needs to go and try to keep him safe. He is scared, but curoagous and while he faces many horrors, is very determined. It all takes place in a sort of dreamscape.
