STEP 1: Hydrogenation NH3 and Na is used to convert alkynes to trans alkenes… need H2 and Pd/Pt/Ni catalyst to make the alkane.

STEP 2: The starting material needs to be the cis-alkene. With the hydrogenation reagents given, we would have the trans alkene, which would lead to a different stereochemistry (diastereomer) for the product. Also, the oxygen could add from the top or bottom face of the alkene so you would make a racemic mixture, not an enantiomerically pure product.
