Bradley asserts that societal beauty norms are of little concern compared to the immensity of faith in the Christian God. As mentioned in the preface, we are reminded that this text was particularly endorsed to reexamine social organization. Rather than using the popularity of her novel as a platform to abolish gender roles and expectations altogether, however, Bradley instead relocates them to more adequately fit a Puritan agenda.
