The Impact of the "Now, Mr. Lincoln?" Campaign Puget Sound's Black Community
At the time of the “Now, Mr. Lincoln?” campaign, a tension existed on the Puget Sound campus between wanting students of color to belong on campus and the structural racism embedded in the university. There was demand for more representative course work of people of color. Although educational efforts were put forth to begin alleviating the negative impacts of racism and addressing this demand, the paternalistic nature of “Now, Mr. Lincoln?” perpetuated systemic racism and failed to address the structural issues that continue to keep students of color in perpetual social oppression to this today.
