Museum of Resistance and Resilience

Video interview with Chloe Cator

I conducted a video Interview over Zoom with Chloe Cator, a senior at Wellesley High School, who developed the group Let’s Talk Wellesley in June of 2020. Let’s Talk Wellesley was established shortly after the death of George Floyd as a space for high school students to talk about the racial injustices present in the U.S.. In this video Chloe discusses how she got involved in her anti-racist activism, how Let’s Talk was conceived, and what the group hopes to achieve. Let’s Talk is a current act of resistance and resilience. Let’s Talk works to both reform the racist systems present in local and national communities, as well as provide a safe place for students to share experiences and ideas.
The video is largely a listening piece. For Chloe's comfort, I do not show her face but her words and voice retain so much power and emotion. Chloe and I discussed the idea of what it means to bear witness to other's experiences. Chloe expressed how she believes giving people of color and people in all minority groups "a platform to tell their stories" instead of reframing/retelling them in the words of a filmmaker/author/artist is so important. For this reason, I have left my own voice out of the video in order to give Chloe more room to share her story and her amazing activism work.
