Resistance in Fashion (Katie, Eujue, Kristin, Niki)

Fashion is a statement. It creates conversations and embodies expression – "it transcends the binary between those who create and those who consume...it's an artistic expression that occurs on a daily basis. It's a protest, the power to change, to be, and to fight" (Fox, 2018).

Our collection is centered around fashion as resistance. The six objects chosen are: The peace sign, suffragette white, the Afro pick, the qi pao, berets in the Blank Panther movement, and the Iranian headscarf. Our items come from all around the world, in all different time periods, which demonstrates how fashion has been used as self-expression, solidarity, and as a way to spark change for many decades.
